Spirit at Play delivers a self development programme using interaction between people and horses.
The organisation works with all ages to help develop and improve life skills by positive interaction with the healing nature of horses. Programmes are designed specifically as an alternative and holistic approach for children and young people.
The aim of the work is to build a relationship with rescue horses, accept a working relationship, considering another beings feelings and emotions and understand that a partner in a relationship needs to be understood and trusted. Rescue horses are used to work with clients accessing the centre, activities are undertaken with the horses on the ground such as brushing the horse, carrying out tasks with the horse in line with movement of the horse, interacting, handling and managing the horse.
We offer young people a chance to express themselves openly and be the person they are in a quiet and peaceful setting in the company of wonderful understanding horses who are also allowed to be who they are and work with love and acceptance of humans.
Young people can enjoy the fresh air and exercise they get at Spiritatplay and learn more about their strengths and weaknesses through playing with horses and our mad dog Alfie who is also part of the team. We help young people and children to grow in awareness of themselves. If they have a permanent disability we can help them to be able to cope with this and be happier and accept the disability and grow with it.
The work we do with the horses helps with communication, self confidence and self worth, tolerance of another being who needs direct and fair direction when working together with them. We can help with problems in the school environment leading to better qualifications and a happy attitude to studying.
We offer either one to one sessions or groups of 3-6 young people for 2 hours. The group work is less intensive than a one-to-one approach and offers great therapeutic value.
£45:00 per 90 minute one to one session with the project Manager.
£ 25:00 per student for the 3-6 person groups duration of session 2 hours.
Spiritatplay will never state how long the sessions should last for as every user is unique in their needs and we are always willing to be open ended.
