Sensory Spectacle educate about and create a better awareness of sensory processing difficulties (SPD) for parents, carers, professionals and siblings. Our approach is unique, focusing on learning through experience.
We make installations which we use in our workshops and events to help our participants experience for themselves how a SPD might impact their life. This is a great tool for reflection and to help professionals improve their practice to supporting people with SPD. SPD affects 1 in 20 of the general public. Over 80% of autistic people have a SPD.
We use our installations to create awareness of SPD in workshops, bespoke installations and events / exhibitions. We come in-house and train a staff team, a parents support group, siblings or class of students.
All our workshops and events are bespoke to your needs. You will learn about sensory processing difficulties, what they are, how to recognise sensory needs, how they may impact your life and ways to support sensory development for children and adults. There's a lot more detail of topic areas found on our website. You will always have an installation at a workshop or event.
If you are looking to create a new experience for your staff training inset day then we can come and work with you to create an immersive experience highlighting and educating about a specific sensory difficulty in your setting.
E.g we have created a 'Sensory Classroom' offering teachers and parents an opportunity to experience how a SPD might impact a classroom experience.
Our 'Sensory Dining room' was an installation to support some research a school had recently done based on the difficulty their pupils experienced during lunchtimes at school, it gave the staff an opportunity to experience some of the difficulties for themselves as well as some training time to reflect and learn from the experience.
We would come and work with your to create an installation bespoke to your setting.
EVENTS / EXHIBITIONS
We are regularly invited to events to display some of our installations to help raise awareness of SPD. Due to their intrigue our installations are appealing to all audiences. We also provide talks and workshops during events aswell.
Annual we arrange an event to create awareness, this is in April during Autism awareness month.
We display our installations at exhibitions and arrange our own exhibitions alongside other artists too throughout the UK.
