Goodlife was set up to provide highly personalised support and community-based learning for young people with a learning difficulty or disability, particularly for those going through the often difficult transition period from school to independent adult life. We are extremely experienced in all aspects of support work, supported and mainstream housing, commissioning, training and service planning. We believe that developing individual capabilities should be the focus of our work, and day services and support should always put the individual first and should empower them to live as independently as possible.
The Goodlife ethos is to do what it says on the tin. We work with young people as an alternative to, or alongside mainstream services to provide real skills for real life. We want people to be able to achieve and maintain as much independence as possible at their own pace. This could be to learn a new skill, such as how to swim, or a suite of skills, such as securing and maintaining a tenancy or getting ready for work. Our emphasis will always be on people working at their own pace, but we hope that with our support they will gain the confidence to push themselves to work outside their comfort zone. We will always aim to help people to do what they want to do with as much independence and as little paid support as possible.
We do not want the people we work with to become highly dependent on support for every day living skills. Goodlife aims to support everyone to do as much for themselves as they can so that people have control over their own life. We believe that support input should reduce as people become more independent.
We work in small groups during the day to make learning community based and interactive. Individuals are matched at assessment according to common interests and aspirations. We encourage social interaction and building friendships within the groups. Success for us is when people are able to live a good life as independently as possible.
